Formal China Wushu Head Coach Junfeng Li - Ba Gua Zhang - Taichi Training
with Li Junfeng
The words Ba Gua translate as “eight trigrams”, a reference to the symbols of the ancient Chinese text of divination: The I Ching, or “Book of Changes”. The eight trigrams are arranged in a circle around the Dao (Ying-Yan) symbol. The concept of Ba Bua is used not only in martial arts, but also in other areas of Chinese culture, such as Daoism, feng shui, navigation, and perdicting the future. The I Ching is one of the treasures of Chinese culture (best translation: Alfred Huang).
The word Zhang means palm, and refers to the fact that this martial art emphasizes the use of the open hand, rather than a closed fist.
The creation of the Ba Gua martial art is attributed to Dong Haichuan in the early 19th century. According to tradition, Dong learned from Daoist masters in the mountains of rural China. He originally designed Ba Gua as a type of meditation, walking in a circle while reciting mantras. Later this was combined with martial arts Dong had mastered in his youth, to to create a new style based on the ability to apply martial techniques while in constant motion.
Walking the circle is the basis for all existing Ba Gua styles. The practiioner walks in a circle, while holding various postures with the upper body, or executing palm changes – patterns of movement which train the body mechanics, generate Chi (or energy), and form the baisis of Ba Gua’s fighting technique.
Junfeng Li is one of those highly cultivated Martial Art and Qigong masters capable of receiving teachings and messages from divine spirits in meditation. It’s a rare opportunity to be with him for 7 days at Eastover, Lenox, MA
Master Li was head coach of China's National Martial Arts Team, 100+ kids won gold medals with him, had acted and directed in several martial arts films, and was an overnight sensation for playing the main role in the very popular film "Wu Ling Zhi" - Legends of [Martial Art] Heroes.
Yet Master Li continue to search for the internal peace and higher realm of self-realization, searching and study with many of the QiGong masters, cultivating Internal Qi. His sincerity and open heart, brought him not only pristine awareness, also he was “chosen” and passed on Heavenly Qi Gong and Tai Chi teachings, along with a philosophy of life that calls for the unification of all religions, caring for the planet, and saving of the environment. His teaching is passed on from teachings of Lao Tzu, Kuan Yin, Jesus, Muhammad, and other divine spirits.
At that time, China was not quite ready to receive what he had to offer, so the master was called to travel to the Philippines or Germany to start his teaching. Still with two young kids at home, Junfeng Li quit his Head Coach position with the Chinese government, forgoing his entire retirement/pension plan, and traveled to the Philippines with no prior arrangement of support or financial commitment of any sort, trusting only in the message of spirit that support for his work would be there when he arrived.
With such trust in divine consciousness, Master Li spent 14 years in the Philippines, where he began his lifetime dedication to teach Sheng Zhen Gong – the qigong of unconditional love that brings happiness and the “wisdom of life” to all beings. At the same time he recorded these teachings in books and CDs. In 2002, Master Li came to United States and another 14 years passed. At 79 years old, Master Li continues to travel to Asia, Europe, Africa, and all over United States to spread the word of “Opening the Heart with Unconditional Love”.
Master Li is one of the true living qigong masters of our time, and the driving force behind bringing Sheng Zhen Gong, the Qigong of Unconditional Love. His life is a testament to the value of practicing this system of qigong. Master Li travels internationally to train and certify Sheng Zhen Gong teachers, and to practice or simply spend time with his students. In doing so, he shares his passion, wisdom, humor and love, so that others can also experience the profound joy that permeates his entire being.
Coach Li will turn eighty this year, but he is not slowing down a bit. Here is a new book just published, he is the main editor, his student and co-star Chun Yan Ge did all the demonstration. They were the main actors for the movie Heroes (Legends) of the Martial World, this movie won national award in China and was a sensation in China. Master Li's first role in a movie. Yet he devotes all his success as coach and movie star and directing to bring love, happiness and health to others.
