Connecting East and West: A New Spiritual Path for the 21st Century with John Montgomery

What exactly is ‘spirituality’ and what does it mean to be a ‘spiritual’ person? Although this is a complicated issue, almost any spiritual seeker would probably agree that spiritual experiences involve feelings of connection or love that flow inwards and outwards – towards oneself and others, towards ‘God,’ or towards the ‘universe’ as a whole.

This workshop will show and suggest that the force of love arises directly from the ‘homeostatic drive,’ the core biological force within us that operates in all of our cells, organs, and tissues, and that seeks to achieve and sustain states of homeostasis, or equilibrium, at all levels. Although the homeostatic drive is the fundamental biological force within us, at higher levels of awareness it gives rise to a spiritual force of enormous power – the force of love and self-love, the force that allows us to be connected to the ‘Tao,’ or the ‘flow’ of life, and the force that appears to represent what people have long felt and experienced as ‘God.’
